The June 2022 issue of the SJIAOS (Volume 38 Issue 2) contains the background manuscript for the Krakow group, launched during the IAOS 2022 conference. The paper by Martine Durand and Jan Robert Suesser (“A fast-evolving landscape for Official Statistics: how to respond to the challenges”) sets the scene for the establishment of the group. The issue also contains themes related to “The Governance of Official Statistics: The Funding”, “Statistical and Data Literacy in Policy-Making”, “Standards, guidelines and recommendations” and “Nowcasting”. Papers in these themes are based on contributions from the 2021 ISI WSC.
The June issue will also launch a discussion on the Official Statistics discussion platform on “The positive and negative aspects of ‘standardization’ in official statistics”. This discussion is triggered by the section on “Standards, guidelines and recommendations”. The discussion aims to contribute to a reflection on the principles behind international statistical standards, their role, and the validity of cross-national comparisons considering the deficiencies in implementation and use of the internationally harmonized standards.
