Committees’ News

The ISI is pleased to announce the formation of a new Committee to oversee our activities in statistical capacity building. The new ISI Capacity Building Committee includes members from the former ISI Statistical Capacity Building Committee and a wide variety of additional members to reflect its updated priorities and ambitions.
In the coming months the Committee will focus on consulting with the global community of Statisticians and Data Scientists on developing a work plan that supports the overall ISI Strategy and finds the right fit for the ISI in global efforts to build statistical capacity, leveraging the unique position of the ISI.
The Co-Chairs of the Committee, Oliver Chinganya and Matthew Shearing, view the starting point as “recognizing that the ISI is alone in its huge potential to facilitate learning regionally and globally across professional boundaries.” “There is an increasing need for Statisticians to think more expansively in terms of their partnerships and learning. Our strengths could include supporting ISI members in learning more from each other, and in new ways. We can also help Statisticians connect to other professions and walks of life; to support new learning needs and to help us all build a stronger role for statistics in society.”
