Results of the ISI Officers’ Elections

This year’s ISI Officers’ Elections were conducted between 31 August and 21 October 2012. The voting was mainly carried out by electronic means, which was made possible due to the recent changes in the ISI Statutes and By-Laws. We received 710 valid votes, which corresponds to a 33% response rate.

In Memoriam: James Durbin (1923-2012)

James Durbin, internationally renowned statistician and former president of the International Statistical Institute (1983-1985) died on June 23, 2012 at the age of 88. He was a graduate of St John’s College, Cambridge and Professor of Statistics at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) until his retirement in 1988.

2013 International Year of Statistics: 10% Increase in Registrations during the Last Month

The 2013 International Year of Statistics is receiving more and more support. During the last month (since 20 July) alone, the number of participants has increased by 10% and now includes 630 organisations and institutions, representing 93 countries. More »

The International Symposium in Statistics (ISS) on Longitudinal Data Analysis Subject to Measurement Error, Missing Values, and/or Outliers took place in Memorial University from July 16 to 18, 2012. This meeting covering three specialized research areas for longitudinal data analysis was attended by 51 delegates from many countries such as Brazil, Switzerland, Spain, Netherlands, Mauritius, USA and Canada, covering almost the entire globe.
Dr. Nancy Flournoy, Professor in the Department of Statistics at the University of Missouri’s College of Arts and Sciences, is the recipient of the Eleventh Annual Janet L. Norwood Award for Outstanding Achievement by a Woman in the Statistical Sciences. She will accept the award at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
The Pakistan Journal of Statistics and Operation Research (PJSOR) recently published a Special Volume in honor of Dr. Mir Masoom Ali, George and Frances Ball Distinguished Professor of Statistics Emeritus at Ball State University, on the occasion of his seventy-fifth birthday anniversary. 78 authors and coauthors have contributed 31 articles to the Special Volume of PJSOR. New ISI Journal Stat Launched!

The ISI has launched a new journal Stat, a joint venture between the ISI and Wiley-Blackwell. Stat is a new online journal aimed at rapid communication of statistical research results. It was launched officially at the end of July at the Joint Statistical Meetings in San Diego. The journal is free to members of the ISI and its Associations. More »
