Byeong U. Park, Professor of Statistics, Seoul National University, has received the 59th National Academy of Sciences Award, Republic of Korea, which is recognized as the most prestigious award in the nation. He is the first statistician to received the award, and the fourth in mathematics since the award was established in 1955. The award is presented to Korean scholars and scientists who have made significant contributions to the development of sciences through research and academic pursuits. Each recipient of the award is presented with the Letter of Citation, a medal, and a cash prize of 50 million Korean Won. Byeong U. Park is currently an ISI Council member and a member of the Bernoulli Society.
