ISBIS Conference Held at Durham

 

On June 9-11, the ISBIS held its biennial conference at Durham, NC, jointly sponsored with the ASA’s Section on Statistical Learning and Data Mining. The theme of the conference was Data Mining in Business and Industry. The conference had 298 participants from 19 different nations. The keynote speakers were Claudia Perlich, from Dsitillery, David Dunson, from Duke University, and Xihong Lin, from Harvard.
Guan Yu from UNC Chapel Hill won the Best Paper Competition for young researchers at the conference for his paper on “Sparse Regression Incorporating Graphical Structure among Predictors.” The award is jointly sponsored by ASA and the National Institute of Statistical Sciences.
