The ISI and its Associations actively encourage participation of developing country members and young statisticians where possible for various conferences, including the ISI World Statistics Congress and Association conferences. In recent times, we have obtained funding for developing country participants through the World Bank Trust Fund for Statistical Capacity Building, AFDB, EFTA, the NASS-ERS Fund and others on occasions. Each funding opportunity comes with its own sets of rules and conditions with regard to the type of paper or presentation that is required as a contribution to the scientific programme.

World Bank Trust Fund for Statistical Capacity Building (WB TFSCB) for ISI World Statistics Congresses

Participants from developing countries may apply for support to attend the WSC and associated events from the ISI’s allocation from this fund. A committee representing the diversity of the ISI family selects participants for this funding on the merit of their contribution to the WSC and its associated events, and to their country. The call for applications is made approximately 9 months prior to the WSC.

News update 15 June 2018: The ISI announces the upcoming call for funding opportunities for developing country participants to attend the next ISI World Statistics Congress in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 18-23 August 2019. The World Bank Trust Fund for Statistical Capacity Building (WB TFSCB) is for permanent residents of developing countries, who aim to expand the statistical capacity in their country through active participation in the scientific programme of the ISI Kuala Lumpur WSC. The applicants will be asked to fill in a form and to submit their paper which will be reviewed by an international committee. The official call and guidelines for applicants will be published in September 2018.
