International Year of Women in Statistics and Data Science
Join ISI in celebrating the International Year of Women in Statistics and Data Science (#IYWSDS) from May 2020 through July 2021. The IYWSDS was launched on 12 May 2020 with commemorating the 200th anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth.

Florence Nightingale

Florence Nightingale (12 May 1820 – 13 August 1910) was a pioneer in the development of statistical graphics to visually represent data and developed diagrams called coxcombs and used them to illustrate the various causes of death during the Crimean War.

Ways to participate

  1. Take part in the UN World Data Forum.
  2. Join the virtual event on the future of federal statistics to celebrate the World Statistics Day 2020.
  3. Participate in the 3rd LISA 2020 Symposium “Connecting to Build Capacity to Transform Evidence into Action".
  4. Propose invited sessions for the 63rd ISI World Statistics Congress 2021 (WSC 2021) related to Florence Nightingale and History of Women in Statistics.
  5. Participate in the ISI & Esri Spatial Thinking Student Competition.

The Working Group on the IYWSDS was created to promote and strengthen the representation of women in statistics and data science and to contribute to the celebration of the IYWSDS from 12 May 2020 through 16 July 2021 (the end date of the WSC 2021).
