About ISI

The ISI and its seven Associations, which cover a range of statistical areas and interests, make up the ISI family. The idea of Associations (formerly called Sections) was introduced in 1947. While the first Association was formally adopted only in 1957, the fruits of this far-reaching and far-sighted innovation are clearly evident today with seven Associations which cover a wide spectrum of statistical sciences and applications. This change resulted in a new type of professional society, one that facilitated international communication among individuals with common interests.

The ISI Associations participate fully in ISI but also have their own governance structures, conferences (including satellite conferences to World Statistics Conferences), journals and awards. Association presidents are members of ISI Council and also meet as a group with the ISI Executive Committee. The ISI and its Associations work closely together to serve the needs of the international statistical community.
