International Survey Sampling Statistician (ICF International, VA, USA)

 

ICF's International Health and Development (IHD) Division is growing and seeks a Survey Sampling Statistician with international experience to work in our Calverton, Maryland office. Our division supports population-based surveys, monitoring and evaluation projects, such as the USAID DHS Measure project and other research in a wide range of content areas including maternal and child health, vulnerable populations, demographics, family planning, HIV/AIDS, TB, Malaria, nutrition, food safety, and climate change. Our work focuses on important policy issues for developing countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. We use rigorous and innovative evaluation methods, and partner closely with our clients and others to ensure that results are relevant, useful and make a difference. The data is used by all internationally focused national government donor agencies and USAID. You will work on a variety of projects and have an excellent opportunity for growth alongside recognized expe rts in the field. This is a full-time position, and 25% international travel is expected (International trips are typically 1-2 weeks at a time)


Responsibilities of the Survey Sampling Statistician include:

» Developing sample designs for household and facility surveys and other types of research studies in developing countries

» Calculating weights for sample survey data and estimating sampling errors

» Providing technical assistance and training in sampling frame construction, sample design, sample size calculations, stratification, sample selection and weighting

» Preparing descriptions of sampling procedures for project reports

» Providing statistical advice to the staff in the IHD Division.

 

Basic Qualifications:

» Master's Degree in Statistics or similar discipline

» Related expertise including demonstrated experience in survey sample design in international settings

» Demonstrated skills in designing samples for household and/or facility surveys, calculating weights for survey data, and calculating sampling errors

» Familiarity with a wide range of advanced statistical techniques

» Demonstrated experience in international health and development

» Experience in developing sampling capacity of counterparts in host counties.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

» PhD in Statistics or similar discipline

» Fluency in French, Spanish or Arabic, in addition to English, is a plus.
