||Research and development in the statistical sciences are essential to address the new modelling and data analysis challenges arising in this age of rapid technological and scientific developments. With its broad membership representing the entire spectrum of research, applications and practice, the ISI has an important role to play in this.

||Good statistical practice is a complex and delicate matter, requiring methodological skills (mathematical, data gathering, relevant confrontation of model and reality) as well as strong and independent (political and otherwise) communication skills. In many situations, it also calls for the need to maintain professional integrity while at the same time delivering value for money.
||Establish an appropriate role for the ISI promoting public awareness of good statistical practice and its value to the community, and in supporting good practice.
||Establish a committee to prepare advocacy material to assist with promoting public awareness of good statistical practice and its value to the community (liaising with other relevant ISI committees as necessary). Collaborate with national statistical societies and national statistical offices on how to best utilise this material.|

||A truly worldwide ISI needs a special focused policy for contributing to statistical development in developing countries.
||Enhance the ISI’s support of the international statistical community.

||The ISI covers many areas of statistical activity through its Sections or through focused committees, and these need to be continually developed. In some areas a more appropriate policy will be to form strategic alliances with other international bodies.

||In order that Statistics remain an active and dynamic discipline, it is necessary that we constantly attract talented young people to the discipline; at the same time, we recognise the benefits from having a Society whose senior members wish to contribute.
||Define and institute a constructive role for the ISI in supporting the development of young statisticians, and in encouraging the ongoing participation of older members.
||Establish a committee whose members represent young people, Sections, and the Committee of Presidents of Statistical Societies, to develop and implement proposals.|

||The ISI had a good financial period in the 1990s, but for several years income has been down without significant corresponding decrease in expenses.
||Put the ISI and its Sections on a sound financial footing.
||Establish a Finance Committee to supervise budgeting and expenditure. Re-visit the current membership model with a view to making it more attractive to belong to ISI. As part of Strategy 1, identify and institute revenue-generating products and services.|
